Santa Claus aka Santa Rocky

As many know Santa Claus is Saint Nicholas. Saint = Santa and Nicholas = Claus. He was born Nicholas in Patara, Asia Minor (Present day Turkey), C.270 AD to wealthy parents. Tradition has it that his family was converted to Christianity by St. Paul on his third missionary journey. Not much is known of his childhood. Too bad there weren’t Letters to his grandfather from St. Paul.  His parents died when Nicholas was around the age of eighteen from an awful plague that spread across Lycia in the third century. As an only child, Nicholas was left alone in an ever-changing world. As the story goes, he had an uncle who was a monk in a monastery who was also named Nicholas. Nicholas went on to train at that monastery for priesthood and eventually became Bishop of Myra, becoming known and referred to in history as Nicholas of Myra. There are many stories of his holiness, generosity, and valor in serving his people. Author of the first book written about St Nicholas, Michael the Archimandrite, said about Saint Nick, “A help in danger and defender of those living in various tribulations”. This quote captures the essence of all the stories and legends of Saint Nicholas/Santa Claus and still lives true in legends being made today.

Down through the years Santa has also been known as Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Sinterklaus, Pere Noel, La Befana, Grandfather Frost, Generous Pho Pho, Joulupukki, Pelznickel, Jultomten, and Wotan among others.  Santa’s spirit has lived a long time and on his birthday December 6th he will be 1,750 years old this year (2020). Because of his great spirit, and the many generations, he has been able to accomplish and try a lot of things.

Santa Rocky is Santa getting in touch with his 21st century self with a propensity for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle (Rudolf) and playing guitar (Olive), and smoking some tasty barbecue, when he is not busy at the NorthPole. In these modern days with internet, technology, corporate mergers, and elf ingenuity, making toys has gotten a lot easier and less time consuming. So, Santa has found himself with extra time to indulge in a few of his passions.

SantaRocky loves riding his 2013 Deluxe Harley Davidson motorcycle. It is just fun getting on the open road on Rudolf with the wind in his face and the sun at his back. SantaRocky can be sited ridding Rudolph all over northern Ohio and SantaRocky has been known to deliver presents for “Christmas in July” riding on this beautiful bike.

SantaRocky gets in touch with his artistic side playing guitar. SantaRocky loves Rock n Roll, Blues, Christian Music, and most of all Christmas Music! SantaRocky really likes playing with his band, Santa Rocky and the NorthPole Players. When these guys and gals get going, they have been known to play until the break of day.

SantaRocky is honing his cooking skills with his favorite cuisine “Barbecue”. He likes making pulled pork, smoked sausage, brisket, pork tenderloin, smoked corned beef, smoked salmon, and his favorite St Louis style spareribs. With most of his barbecue he likes using his homemade sauce “Fat Pig Barbecue and Cooking Sauce”.
